Improving livelihoods through improved health services

We are Doctor’s Health Foundation Uganda (DHFU)we are determined to contribute towards a healthy and hopeful community through creating health awareness to vulnerable communities by providing basic health knowledge, services and skills to enhance a better way of living.

DHFU is a Community Based Organization operating in Mukono District majorly in the health sector.

OUR WORK

DHFU believes that high-quality primary healthcare systems, based on the principle of equity, health promotion and disease prevention, provide the best outcome. DHFU seeks to improve health and healthcare for all, especially vulnerable populations, with an emphasis on delivering quality primary services in local communities.

The main objectives of Doctor’s Health Foundation Uganda are as follows:

  • To bring basic health services closer to the community mainly in the area of maternal health, laboratory, imaging services, rehabilitation clinics, skin and ophthalmic services, pediatric, Dental and Geriatric care
  • To offer an opportunity to existing health workers and practioners to acquire the necessary knowledge to manage various ailments since they are consulted first i.e the rural clinics. This will be done by holding short seminars or trainings.
  • To provide the community with health awareness through primary health care programs (PHC) of how to prevent the various ailments since 80% of them can b prevented.
  • To have a quick well equipped emergency response team, which include ambulances, well trained human resource, Emergency medical supplies and resuscitation equipment.
  • Provide charity services to the vulnerable, disabled, orphans and elderly

                OUR CONCERN

In the year 2011 a group of Doctors sat to assess and analyze the medical problem facing their clients and also to share their experiences.

They also discovered the following facts:

  1. Health services are very far from the clients
  2. The communities have few and not well skilled/ knowledgeable health workers.
  3. The clients are very poor to afford the services required.
  4. 80% of the ailments are preventable if the community is well informed
  5. There is total lack of emergency health services and responses

It is against this background that these doctors headed by Dr. Kizito Drake Kisakye decided to team up and form a Community Based Organization in the names of DOCTORS’ HEALTH FOUNDATION UGANDA to address the above issues.
